Overview
Macdonald & Co. is partnered with a Class-A multifamily real estate developer in Washington DC to appoint a Senior Property Accountant.
The Senior Property Accountant, reporting to the Real Estate Accounting Manager, will develop a comprehensive understanding of the group’s properties, oversee property performance, and execute daily accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will have an analytical approach to forecasting, preparing, and analyzing property financial packages, as well as preparing and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and various cash flow analyses. General
- Develop expertise in the systems and platforms required for accounting functions.
- Demonstrate strong general ledger and reconciliation skills, serving as the primary expert advisor to team members.
- Administer accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise the timely and accurate preparation and completion of corporate and property financial statements and bank reconciliations.
- Analyze data, draw conclusions, recommend changes, prepare and process journal entries, and compile financial statement packages.
- Oversee a portfolio of properties, closely monitor team outputs, and ensure compliance with contracts.
- Prepare and process construction management fees and replacement reserves.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and organized workpapers in line with departmental requirements and deadlines.
- Prepare, review, and submit annual US GAAP audit requests for properties.
- Manage ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cash Management
Assist in planning long- and short-term business objectives by actively participating in the budget process.Prepare and analyze the company’s periodic cash position report for all properties.Prepare and analyze annual property budgets and periodic reforecasts as needed.Assess corporate and property performance against budget, understanding and explaining significant variances.Initiate and / or review transfers, wires, ACHs, and process stop payments on checks as needed.Requirements
A passion for excellence in customer service delivery.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business and / or Accounting.CPA or CPA candidate preferred.3+ years of relevant experience.Proven leadership skills and excellent verbal and written English communication skills.Thorough knowledge and experience in analyzing financial statement variances, completing bank reconciliations, creating journal entries, and performing other account reconciliations.Commercial or residential property accounting experience preferred.
