Field of activity
The professorship is affiliated to the Centre of Pathobiology and is intended to focus on research, teaching and in cooperation with the preclinical facilities and the clinics dealing with virus-related, particularly zoonotic or emerging infectious diseases. According to the development plan of the University of Veterinary Medicine, the expansion of interdisciplinary, translational research should be pursued, so that the findings from research activities support the One Health concept of Vetmeduni.
The central task of the professor to be appointed is to further develop and represent the field of virology in the context of comparative virulence and pathogenicity mechanisms as well as the molecular evolution of viruses. The use of innovative biomodels, modern -omics technologies, and state-of-the-art imaging techniques is expected to enable comprehensive research into viral infection processes and host interactions. The tasks include the further development of existing teaching programmes (compulsory and elective courses, postgraduate training) using digital media.
Of particular importance is the establishment of an interdisciplinary, internationally visible research programme along with the promotion of early-career researchers. For this purpose, state-of-the-art facilities with excellent research and teaching opportunities are available.
In research, the successful candidate should demonstrate a relevant, independent, and internationally visible profile. Adequate third-party funding for the own research in the field of Virology and host-pathogen interaction is a prerequisite. The job holder is expected to collaborate with the facilities of the Vetmeduni as well as with related national and international institutions.
In teaching, the successful candidate fulfils tasks within the curricula of Vetmeduni, supervises theses and is involved in postgraduate scientific training.
Furthermore, the duties of the position holder include third mission activities as well as contributions to the university self-administration and participation in university as well as national and international committees.
Required education, qualifications and experience
Completed studies in veterinary medicine, human medicine or life sciences
Completed subject-related Doctorate / PhD or comparable scientific qualification
Proof of interdisciplinary research activities in the relevant field and ability to network (e.G., demonstrated through national or international project cooperations with universities or research institutions)
Outstanding, relevant publication track record
Proof of successful acquisition of third-party funded research projects as Principal Investigator (PI)
Demonstrable experience in the application, validation, and further development of state-of-the-art methods in the relevant subject area
Didactic qualification or experience in teaching, supervision, and training of undergraduate and graduate students
Good command of English (B2)

Minimum salary
The minimum salary according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff is EUR 6,604.30 gross per month for 40 hours / week (14 times per year). A higher salary may be agreed to during the appointment negotiations.
