As the economic and industrial hub of North Queensland, Townsville is home to 200,000+ residents and covers nearly 4,000 sqkms. With a strong commercial platform built on mining, education, construction and defence, the region is also rapidly building a bright, future-focused economy based on renewable energy and emerging technologies.
The Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) is a pivotal leadership role, reporting to the Director Business Services and providing organisation-wide influence and strategic direction across four functional areas : Enterprise Solutions and Systems, Infrastructure Security and Operations, Planning and Delivery, and Information Management. Leading a team of 75 FTE, the CDIO will guide Council's digital transformation journey, setting a clear path for governance, investment, and cultural change in how technology supports the community.
The CDIO will ensure Council's digital capability is robust, customer-focused, secure, and strategically aligned to deliver the priorities of the Corporate Plan while driving a long-term digital transformation agenda that simplifies applications, modernises platforms, and strengthens cyber security.
Success will require more than technical expertise. Council seeks a senior executive leader who brings credibility, pragmatism, and the ability to inspire cultural change. The ideal candidate will have experience in large, complex, multidisciplinary organisations such as health, education, utilities or local government, with a strong track record of organisational transformation and cultural renewal.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in information technology, knowledge management or IT engineering are essential, with postgraduate qualifications in business or management highly regarded. The ability to stay at the forefront of emerging technologies, knowing what best practice looks like and how to translate that into value for Council and the community, is also crucial.
