The Position

Our client is looking to appoint a Country Head Austria to lead and further develop its Corporate Banking business in the Austrian market. This senior leadership role is responsible for adapting the international strategy to local market dynamics, driving sustainable growth, and securing long-term value creation.

The Country Head oversees all local operations, manages key client relationships, and strengthens the institution's reputation as a trusted partner for corporates and institutions in Austria. The position carries full accountability for achieving budget and performance objectives, identifying new opportunities, and ensuring close collaboration with the wider regional and global network.

As a leader, the Country Head builds and develops the Austrian team, promotes a culture of accountability and collaboration, and ensures effective succession planning. The role includes chairing the local management team, guiding decision-making, and ensuring smooth execution.

Externally, the Country Head represents the institution with senior clients, regulators, associations, and business partners. A strong focus lies on enhancing the brand's visibility in Austria and leveraging cooperation with international product groups to deliver the full value of the franchise to clients.

Compliance and risk management form an integral part of the mandate. The Country Head ensures that all activities meet regulatory requirements and internal standards, maintaining oversight of credit and operational risks while embedding continuous improvements.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader who combines strategic vision with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to inspire others. A proven track record of driving business growth in complex, international environments is essential.

Key requirements include :

• University degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field
• At least 20 years of experience in banking / financial services, including senior leadership positions across multiple functions
• Proven expertise in strategy execution and business development
• Entrepreneurial drive to expand regional business activities
• In-depth knowledge of corporate banking products, processes, and risk management
• Strong credit expertise and financial acumen
• Fluency in German and English, written and spoken
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and influencing skills
• Strong client orientation with a dynamic, engaging personality
• Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and inspire high-performing teams
• Integrity, resilience, and agility, combined with a strong sense of accountability
